Who We Are

Maine Pretrial Services, Inc. is a private, nonprofit agency committed to providing case management, supportive services, and resource connection to individuals involved in civil and criminal legal systems in the state of Maine.

Our Mission In Action:

Our core operations focus on three critical pillars:

• Risk & Need Assessment:

  Evaluating incarcerated individuals to provide objective data for court release decisions.

• Community Linkages:

  Connecting clients to essential resources like housing, mental health support and treatment.

• Specialty Court Coordination:

  Managing and coordinating Maine’s Treatment and Recovery Courts to support long-term accountability.

A Legacy of Service

Late 1970s

Founded as the Cumberland Bail Project in Portland, establishing community-based pretrial support at the local level.

1983

Formally renamed Maine Pretrial Services, expanding to our current nine-county reach across the state.

1996

Maine Pretrial Services managed Maine’s first treatment court (Project Exodus). We now provide case management for all of Maine’s specialty dockets under contract with the DHHS Office of Behavioral Health.

Maine Pretrial Services is a nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing public safety and reducing unnecessary incarceration through pretrial supervision, risk assessment, and support services. Our Board of Directors, composed of experienced professionals and community leaders, provides strategic guidance and oversight to ensure our mission is carried out with integrity, innovation, and a commitment to justice for all.
